MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Kernels boys golf wrapped up its 2025 season on Tuesday with a seventh-place finish at the Class AA State Tournament at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City. The Kernels fell one spot on day two after being tied for sixth on Monday. Mitchell shot +48 for the tournament, one shot behind Yankton for sixth place. Mitchell’s Asher Dannenbring finished in a tie for 15th overall with back-to-back rounds of 76 to finish +8, just one shot behind ninth place. Carter McCormick (T28) and Dawson Adams (T43) also shot 76 on Tuesday, while Jordan Meyerink (T43) finished with a 77. Harrisburg won the team title with a score of +14 to edge out O’Gorman by six shots. Taten Mauney of O’Gorman cleared the field by five shots, finishing at -2 (142) for the tournament to win individual honors.
— Mitchell Kernels girls soccer lost to No. 3 Pierre on Tuesday night 5-1 in the SoDAK 16. The Kernels end their season with a 5-10 record.
— Mitchell Kernels girls soccer lost to No. 1 SF Lincoln on Tuesday night 10-0 in the SoDAK 16. The Kernels end their season with a 2-10-3 record.
— Mitchell Kernels girls tennis competes at the Class AA state tournament in Sioux Falls on Thursday, October 9 and Friday, October 10. Mitchell finished second behind Harrisburg at the ESD conference meet earlier this week in Yankton.
— Mitchell Kernels football has its final road game of the season on Friday when they take on Brandon Valley at 6 pm.
— Mitchell Kernels volleyball, 9-4 on the season, will host Rapid City Central on Friday at 6:30 pm.
DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan women’s golf finished second on Tuesday at the Mustang Derby in Sioux City behind a first-place finish from Allison Meyerink. Meyerink shot E (72) during her second round to finish the tournament at +6 and win by one shot. DWU’s Sara Sudenga shot back-to-back 76’s to finish alone in fourth place at +8. The Tigers will compete next week at The Statesmen at TPC Deere Run hosted by William Penn University in Illinois starting on Monday.
— Dakota Wesleyan goalie Abigail Colgrove has been named the GPAC’s Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week following a stretch that saw her record six saves on seven shots, including her fifth shutout of the season. Colgrove registered five saves last week against Northwestern on six attempts in a 3-1 victory. DWU then played to a 0-0 draw last weekend vs. Doane.
— Dakota Wesleyan volleyball will be at Doane on Friday at 7:30 pm.
— Dakota Wesleyan football hosts No. 4 Morningside next Saturday at 1 pm.
— Dakota Wesleyan men’s soccer will be at Midland on Saturday at 5 pm.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State women’s basketball is the preseason favorite the win the Summit League regular season, announced by the conference on Tuesday, and Jackrabbit forward Brooklyn Meyer was once again named the Preseason Player of the Year. Four Jackrabbits make up the 11-player preseason teams with Meyer and Madison Mathiowetz named to the first team, while Katie Vasecka and Evansville transfer Maggie Hartwig were selected to the second team.
— South Dakota State men’s basketball was picked to finish third in the Summit League preseason poll, released on Tuesday. St. Thomas and Omaha took the top two spots. SDSU Junior Kalen Garry was chosen for the All-Summit League Preseason First Team. The Jacks begin their season on Nov. 3 when they face Merrimack at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
— South Dakota State volleyball hosts Kansas City on Thursday at 7 pm.
— South Dakota State women’s soccer will be at Denver on Thursday at 8 pm.
— South Dakota State football returns home on Saturday to face Northern Iowa at 2 pm.
SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD volleyball host St. Thomas on Thursday at 7 pm.
— USD women’s soccer will be at Kansas City on Thursday at 7 pm.
— USD football will be at Indiana State next Saturday at Noon.
HIGH SCHOOL GOLF
— Parkston’s Landon Weber finished in a three-way tie for fourth place on Tuesday at the Class A Boys Golf Tournament at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion. Weber shot a 79 on day two after finishing with a 71 on Monday. He finished at +6 (150) to tie with Cooper Girard of Vermillion and Carson Steffensen of Canton. As a team, Parkston placed seventh out of 17 teams with a total score of +110. Dakota Valley (+23) won the team title finishing four shot ahead of second place Vermillion. Hayden Heig of St. Thomas More was the only golfer under par for the two days finishing at -6 (138), seven shots better than second place Matt DeBeer of Dakota Valley

— Aaron Judge hit a game tying home run and drove in four as the New York Yankees avoided elimination by rallying from five runs down to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-6 in Game 3 of their AL Division Series. Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a go-ahead homer in the fifth inning, and the Yankees took advantage of two errors by Toronto to score eight unanswered runs.
— Cal Raleigh hit a late two-run homer, while Eugenio Suarez and J.P. Crawford had solo shots as the Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 8-4 to take a 2-1 lead in the AL Division Series. The Mariners are within a win of their first AL Championship Series since 2001. Seattle’s Logan Gilbert gave up one run on four hits while striking out seven over six innings.
NFL
— The Cincinnati Bengals acquired veteran quarterback Joe Flacco from the Cleveland Browns along with a sixth-round draft pick on Tuesday for a fifth-round pick next season. The 40-year-old Flacco gives Cincinnati another option at QB as Jake Browning has struggled since replacing Joe Burrow, who is out with a toe injury sustained in Week 2. Flacco started the first four games for the Browns this season, throwing for 815 yards and two touchdowns with six interceptions. Rookie Dillon Gabriel replaced Flacco in the Cleveland starting lineup.
— A truck driver has filed a lawsuit against former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez and Fox following a bloody fight police say was started by Sanchez. The lawsuit accuses Sanchez of starting a fight outside a downtown Indianapolis hotel. The altercation left the 69-year-old truck driver with severe injuries. Prosecutors say the dispute began over parking. Sanchez faces a felony battery charge and several misdemeanors.
— The NFL has fined Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones $250,000 for an obscene gesture toward fans at MetLife Stadium. He says it was inadvertent. The incident came late in Dallas’ 37-22 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. Jones says he intended a “thumbs up” for celebrating Cowboys fans. He says he was interacting with Dallas fans, not Jets fans.
— Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon has been fined $100,000 by the team after a heated sideline altercation with Emari Demercado following the running back’s costly fumble during the team’s 22-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans. The NFL has been in contact with the NFL Players Association and there will be no further punishment for Gannon. The coach said on Monday that he had apologized to Demercado.
