
SEWARD, Neb. — No. 9 Dakota Wesleyan Women’s Basketball wrapped up its weekend at the 2025 Cattle Classic Invitational against the No. 18 Arizona Christian Firestorm.
The Tigers opened the contest with a dominant offensive showing, as Dakota Wesleyan outscored ACU 26-8 in the first period. Dakota Wesleyan was led by junior forward Emma Yost, who posted a new career-high of 34 points through 32 minutes of play while also contributing six rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Yost’s impressive scoring effort was supported by fellow junior, Shalayne Nagel. The Springfield, South Dakota native posted 19 points and was a force towards the basket with eight total rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
The duo got to work from the jump and extended DWU’s lead to 39-27 at the half, with Yost going 13-19 from the field (68.4%) and Nagel going 9-19 (47.4%) overall. Jaida Young had a major impact in a support role for the team by leading DWU with 13 rebounds and nine assists, alongside four steals.
Dakota Wesleyan’s momentum carried them through the second half as Yost and Nagel continued to lead the way, with starters Avery Broughton and Taliyah Hayes getting involved by combining for 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Rylee Rosenquist was a contributor off the bench yet again for DWU, posting seven points and seven rebounds through 20 minutes on the court.
The Tigers put up their highest-scoring frame in the third period with 27, outmatching the 16 put up by Arizona Christian. Maleighya Estes contributed on the statsheet as well during the contest, posting six points, four rebounds, and two steals. The Firestorm were unable to keep up with Dakota Wesleyan’s firepower, and the Tigers ultimately pulled away to secure an 82-58 victory. Dakota Wesleyan wrapped up the weekend in Seward with a 1-1 record and a ranked win.
DWU Women’s Basketball will be back in action for GPAC play against Hastings on Saturday, November 15th at 2:00 PM.
