Economist says beef cow slaughter data is crucial without July Inventory report

A livestock economist says he continues to look for any signs of herd expansion.  University of Missouri’s Scott Brown says cattle producers have been reluctant to expand their herds, and he’s looking for any indication that is changing. “Now we can have a little bit of chance to look at beef cow slaughter as well relative to these heifer numbers,” he says. “So, are we doing anything on that side of the equation relative to beef cow inventory?”

He tells Brownfield these monthly data sets are becoming even more important for a very specific reason.
