The USDA reports Illinois
broke the national pumpkin yield record in 2018 despite lower production.
Illinois’ average yield of
47,000 pounds per acre is the highest on record in the US, topping a 41,000
pounds per acre yield in Texas in 2016.
Illinois farmers harvested
37% fewer pumpkin acres last year, but higher yields resulted in total
production dropping by only 20%. Illinois continues to be the number one
pumpkin producing state.
