Iowa tornadoes cause massive damage, fatalities reported

At least six tornadoes were confirmed in Iowa on Tuesday resulting from a severe weather system that caused catastrophic damage and left multiple people dead.

Sergeant Alex Dinkla, public information officer for the Iowa State Patrol, says a large tornado directly struck the rural community of Greenfield,which is located about 60 miles west of Des Moines. “Sadly, we can confirm there have been fatalities,” Dinkla said. “Also, injuries have been sustained.”

During a press conference, Dinkla said the patrol believes they have everyone accounted for, but search efforts continue.
