Organization wants market competition addressed in the farm bill

Bill Bullard with R-CALF USA says the organization is pushing for 2023 Farm Bill to include language that addresses competition in the cattle markets.

He tells Brownfield that includes enforcement of the Packers & Stockyards Act, the 50:14 rule, and Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling. “We think all of these reforms are most likely going to find their way into the farm bill, and that’s our effort right now,” he says.  “So, in order to affect our long-range plans, we’re going to continue fighting for these issues and encouraging their inclusion in the upcoming farm bill.”

But, Bullard says that’s not the only route the organization is willing to take.  “If there is another bill that happens to be progressing through Congress that we could attach an amendment to include, for example, mandatory country-of-origin labeling for beef,” he says.  “We’re certainly going to try to do so.”

He says addressing these issues is also included in R-CALF’s long-range plan.
