ETHAN, S.D. — The Ethan School District is alerting parents that a shortage of bus drivers could result in changes to student transportation for the upcoming school year.
In a message to families, Superintendent Tim Hawkins said the district recently lost another part-time bus driver who is expected to be unavailable for at least the next three months. The loss leaves the district with staffing challenges that could force officials to consider adjustments to bus routes.
Hawkins emphasized that no final decisions have been made and said the district is actively recruiting additional drivers while exploring all available options to maintain transportation services.
District officials notified families early so they have time to consider alternative transportation arrangements if changes become necessary.
“We understand how important reliable transportation is for our students and families, and we recognize that this situation may create difficulties,” Hawkins said in the message.
The district said it will continue providing updates as more information becomes available and will announce any transportation decisions as soon as they are finalized.
