Kwik Star, a Wisconsin-based gas station and convenience store chain, is rapidly expanding in the Sioux Falls area, aiming to open a total of 10 locations by the end of the year.
Six locations are already operational, including the first store in Brandon, which opened six months ago. Customers have been pleasantly surprised by the stores’ offerings, often viewing them as neighborhood grocery stores.
The next openings include a location at 85th Street and Bergamot Avenue in early August, Harrisburg’s second location at Minnesota Avenue and Tom Sawyer Trail in mid-August, a northwest Sioux Falls location at Madison Street and Ebenezer Avenue in late September, and a northeast Sioux Falls location at Madison and Finnegan Avenue in mid-October.
Kwik Star is considering further expansion in areas like far northwest Sioux Falls and possibly Tea. Hiring has begun for the upcoming locations and for existing stores, with a focus on part-time overnight and kitchen second shift positions.
The company has raised its starting wage and is experiencing phenomenal food sales in Sioux Falls.
Kwik Star also plans to open new locations in Brookings and Pipestone, Minnesota, in the fourth quarter of 2024.
