Miranda O’Bryan, Martin native and TV news anchor, crowned Miss South Dakota

BROOKINGS, SD – Miranda O’Bryan, a 25-year-old TV news anchor from Martin, was crowned Miss South Dakota on Saturday night at the South Dakota State University in Brookings. O’Bryan will represent South Dakota at the 96th Miss America Pageant in December.

O’Bryan is a graduate of Bennett County High School and South Dakota State University. She is a multimedia journalist and anchor for KOTA and KEVN-Black Hills Fox. She is also a veteran of the Miss South Dakota Pageant, having competed in the pageant three times before.

In her personal platform, O’Bryan advocates for literacy and education. She is the founder of Page Turners: Fall in Love with Reading, a program that encourages children to read. She is also a volunteer with the South Dakota State Library and the Boys and Girls Club.

O’Bryan was crowned by Miss South Dakota 2022 Hunter Widvey. The first runner-up was Miss Dakota Prairie Carly Goodhart, the second runner-up was Miss Railroad Junction Payton Steffensen, and the third and fourth runners-up were Miss Rapid City Baylee Dittman and Miss Siouxland Rio Snyder.

The pageant was briefly interrupted when one of the contestants experienced a medical emergency on stage. The contestant was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

The Miss South Dakota Pageant is a scholarship pageant that awards more than $100,000 in scholarships to the winners.
