Suspect charged with murder in Wessington Springs case from this weekend

WESSINGTON SPRINGS, S.D. – Authorities say a homicide investigation is underway in Wessington Springs.

The Jerauld County State’s Attorney on Sunday confirmed the homicide investigation in Wessington Springs involves one victim and that a suspect is in custody.

A female subject was safely released from the residence, while Mitch Caffee of Wessington Springs peacefully surrendered himself. Caffee was subsequently arrested on charges including 1st degree murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping and burglary.

He remains in custody on a $1 million dollar cash-only bond.
