An elderly person from Sioux Falls who fell victim to an online scam has lost about $200-thousand over the last month.
Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Aaron Benson says this scam has a new wrinkle.
In this case, the victim was actually given a script on what to tell bank tellers if questioned about making the wire transfers. “There were several large wire transfers that were being completed and the victim told the teller that they were doing some home remodeling, which was the reason for why they were making these large wire transfers,” said Benson.
Benson says detectives are following some leads in the case but says it will be very difficult to recover the money that was wired.
