Eleven teams vied for top honors during Sunday’s Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo chili-cook-off at Stampede Park.
Committee chairman Stan Peterson says most of the teams are repeat competitors. “They have fun, that’s what it’s all about,” Peterson said. “We got music, there’s stuff for the kids to play on over there, the bouncy houses and stuff, and just being around people and the music and the noise and eating good old chili.”
This year the judges selected Pheasants Forever as the top-chili, followed by Performance Pet and Iverson’s. People’s Choice was also awarded to Pheasants Forever.
The Best Camp Award went to Davison County Highway and Weed Control.
Peterson added the weather was perfect for this year’s Chili Cook-Off. “The weather in July, you can’t expect it any better than this.” Peterson smiled. “Overcast, not terribly hot, breeze, it isn’t going to get any better than this.”
