The Exchange Club of Mitchell was awarded the NATIONAL C.A.R.E. AWARD during the National Exchange Convention in Omaha, Nebraska recently. C.A.R.E. stands for Child Abuse Reduction Effort.
Each year, the National Exchange Club presents a prestigious award to an Exchange Club that sponsors the most effective and far-reaching project in Prevention of Child Abuse. The Mitchell Exchange club won with its “Free Cyber Parenting Videos 101” project.
This involved partnering with the Davison County Child Protection Team and nationally known award-winning trainer and Child Cyber Crimes Expert Det. Rich Wistocki. Det. Wistocki made 20 short videos on the different forms of child abuse that occurs over the internet—many that are un-noticed by parents. Parents could click on a QR code to get to this site to watch short videos any time they had a few minutes. Videos ranged from 3 minutes to 27 minutes in length, with 2 being presented in Spanish. These videos were provided as a 24/7 on demand educational service for one year.
The Mitchell Exchange Club, the Davison County Child Protection Team, and educators in the Mitchell Schools were a great help in distributing the information and small business cards with the QR code. More than 1600 views were completed in the months that the videos were available. The Mitchell Exchange Club hopes thru this educational project, parents will be informed and local children will be safer when online.
