Mitchell Area United Way takes a giant step forward

It’s a new year, with a new name, and loftier goals. The Mitchell Area United Way launched its 2025 campaign Wednesday with its annual Day of Caring and a goal of $515,000.

Incoming executive director Darcy Sabers says the organization’s service area is expanding beyond Mitchell to include Davison, Aurora, Hanson, Sanborn, Douglas, Jerauld, Hutchinson, and Miner counties. “Expanding to our counties and expanding to ‘Mitchell Area’, bring us into the smaller communities and let them know they have access to the resources that we have here,” said Sabers.

The expansion will allow communities across the region to access United Way programs and, in the future, apply for funding.

The expanded service area will bring signature programs like the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, CPR/AED certification for teachers and daycare providers, the Delta Dental Mobile Bus, and Day of Caring projects to smaller communities.

Over its lifetime, Mitchell United Way has given back more than $15 million to the Mitchell community, funding projects and programs that strengthen education, financial stability, and health for residents of all ages.  The organization funds and supports more than 30 local agencies and programs, impacting thousands of lives each year.
