Mitchell School Board and MCEA agree on 2026-2027compensation plan

The Mitchell School District has come to an agreement with the Mitchell Classified Employees Association. Superintendent Joe Childs says following a short executive session during Monday morning’s meeting the school board agreed to the terms.

“The MCEA agreement is a classified bargaining group, and so essentially it’s all of our wage employees, paraeducators, maintenance, custodial, kitchen service, and those groups,” Childs said. “And so each of those groups received a 10 cent increase across the board, so all of our wage employees got a 10 cent an hour increase.”

Plus a little extra for paraeducators. “We have a number of resignations mid-year and those resignations have a negative and direct impact on our students,” Childs stated. “So we’re trying to figure out a way that we could do what we could to keep those people in the position at least for the duration of the year and so we’ve offered an incentive to that employee group alone.” That being $400 for the successful contract year.

Childs says the board is still working on a proposed budget for the 2026-2027 school year and is expecting a presentation during the next board meeting on June 22nd.
