Mitchell School Board updated on high school construction project

Superintendent Joe Childs provided an update on the high school construction project during Monday’s Mitchell School Board meeting. “We’re making progress, were not finished yet,” said Childs. “What I was happy to announce tonight was that we are finished enough, if we had to have started school today, we would have been able to do it.”

He says there’s running water, the kitchen is working, the classrooms are in good shape with teachers mostly moved in. “We had our in-service today, our preservice with all our faculty and staff and they toured the building,” Childs said.

Meanwhile, Mitchell School Board leadership will remain the same as last year as Brittni Flood was elected president and Shawn Ruml vice-president.

In other business, the group approved a $220,000 bid for a new boring machine for the MTC powerline program plus a bid for materials for the MTC student-built houses and held an extensive discussion and ultimately placed on first-reading new federally mandated policies regarding sexual harassment, grievance policy, and open carry of weapons.

The board also placed 700-900 series MTC policies on first reading, declared a number of items surplus and was asked by Superintendent Joe Childs to consider future work-planning sessions.
