Mitchell’s hometown heroes to be honored up and down Main Street

The Mitchell Hometown Hero Banner Project is gaining momentum. That’s the word from Mitchell Main Street and Beyond executive director Elizabeth Luczak. “The first wave is going to be 39 banners that include active members from the 665th that is currently deployed from Mitchell, from the 147th Army Band and other active-duty individuals from the Mitchell area,” Luczak explained. “The second wave is going to have 50 banners that reach the north part of our main street, so currently sitting at just shy of 90 banners going up on our downtown,” she said.

Each banner is 54 inches long and 24 inches wide and features a local service member’s name, photograph and branch of service, recognizing them as a Mitchell Hometown Hero. The banners will be installed on the green light posts up and down Main Street.

Luczak is hopeful the first-wave of banners will be up in time for Memorial Day weekend. If you’d like to sponsor a banner call 605-990-4500.
