Suspect arrested in a deadly shooting in Scotland, South Dakota

There’s additional information regarding Tuesday evening’s deadly shooting in Scotland that left three people dead and two wounded.

The Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots-fired at a Scotland residence near city hall. Upon arrival, two people were found dead, while three others had sustained gunshot wounds; one later died due to their injuries. The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation into the incident.

DCI Special Agents arrested Francis D. Lange on charges including three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and five counts of aggravated assault. Initial indication is the incident stemmed from a domestic-related altercation. While this is still an ongoing investigation, there’s no threat to the public or community.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol and Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
