Suspect in officer involved shooting was positive for COVID-19 virus

The Division of Criminal Investigation and the Rapid City Police Department have confirmed that the male subject in the officer involved shooting that occurred Wednesday, May 13, 2020, in Rapid City, South Dakota was positive for COVID-19. South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg is pleased to announce that following testing over this past weekend all officers of the Rapid City Police Department and agents of the DCI who were potentially exposed came back negative. It is important to note that negative results do not preclude infection with the COVID-19 virus and should not be the sole basis of patient treatment/management or public health decisions, and that follow up testing should be performed according to the current CDC recommendations.

At this time decisions as to self-quarantine/monitoring of the involved officers and agents will be made based on all the known factors and agency policy/CDC recommendations.
