Vietnam era veterans honored and thanked for their service

Congressman Dusty Johnson continued his mission of recognizing veterans who served in the military during the Vietnam era from 1955 to 1975 Thursday at Mitchell VFW Post 2750.

“Our office has honored more than 1,200 Vietnam veterans and Vietnam-era veterans in more than 100 ceremonies like this,” said Johnson. “And so thank you for being a part of, I think this really important continuation of this work.”

He presented a challenge coin, commemorative pin and his personal thanks to a dozen veterans.

Johnson invited each veteran to say a few words regarding their service including their branch and assignments. “I do want to thank the veterans, it’s so rarely them that wants the recognition. It’s often their friends or family members that nominate them to our office,” Johnson told the group.

“And we need another generation of patriots willing to serve this country in uniform. And it’s stories like this, it’s acknowledgments like this, that help to inspire that next generation.”
