9 Man Football Playoffs Start on Thursday

The No. 1 seed Parkston Trojans look to make another run to the 9AA state championship game after finishing the regular season undefeated.

Parkston will host No. 16 Viborg-Hurley on Thursday and will have home field advantage through the semifinals.

The Trojans lost to Wall in last year’s 9AA championship game and could find themselves facing the Eagles in a potential semifinal this year.

Last year’s 9A state champion Gregory will have to be road warriors in order to get back to Vermillion this year as the Gorillas are the No. 12 seed and will have to travel to Harding County/Bison in the first round and have to potentially face Canistota in the quarterfinals.

Warner is the No. 1 in 9A for the second consecutive year and is looking to win the state title and cap off an undefeated season after losing to Gregory in last year’s title game.

With no undefeated teams and only six teams with winning records, the Class 9B playoffs has the chance to be the most unpredictable in the state.

Last year’s state champ, Hitchcock-Tulare, is a No. 8 seed this year and will host No. 9 Lemmon/McIntosh, setting up a quarterfinals matchup with No. 1 Avon.

No. 3 Corsica-Stickney plays No. 14 New Underwood as the Jaguars look to rebound from last year’s first round lost to No. 12 Irene-Wakonda, 61-52.
