Dimock-Emery advances, Platte falls in the 1st Round of the State Amateur Tournament

MITCHELL, S.D. – A Doug Sudbeck two-out single scoring Sam Michels from 2nd base in the bottom of the 8th inning ended up being the game winner for Dimock-Emery as the Raptors defeated Castlewood last night, 4-3 on the opening night of the 2021 Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament.

Sudbeck (2-for-4 with 3 RBI’s) also drove in the first two runs of the game for Dimock-Emery (12-10) in the 4th inning on a two-out single, scoring Phil Johnson and Carter Dye.

Castlewood would score of all three of its runs in the top of the 5th inning. Dimock-Emery would end up tying the game at three in the bottom of the 5th on a Kellan Benck balk.

Benck threw all eight innings for Castlewood, giving up four runs, but just one earned with zero K’s and seven hits.

Jason Schmidt cruised through most of the night for Dimock-Emery, striking out 11 batters over nine innings and giving up three unearned runs and 128 pitches.

The Raptors move on to Sunday night’s second round where they will take on the Milbank Firechiefs.

Milbank would score five runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and that would be enough to end the Platte Killer Tomatoes season, 8-4.

Grant Lang had 15 strikeouts for Platte, but ended up giving up eight runs in eight innings on 154 pitches.

Platte would chip away at the Milbank lead with two runs in the 5th and two more runs in the 6th inning to get within two at 6-4. Milbank would get a run back in the bottom of the 6th and add one more insurance run in the bottom of the 8th.

Dom Burger came in, in relief of Milbank starter Justin Larson to throw 3 1/3 shutout innings. Larson gave up four runs, two earned, in 5 2/3 innings to get the win.
