Former USD pole vaulter Chris Nilsen wins silver in Tokyo


TOKYO —
Former University of South Dakota pole vaulter Chris Nilsen won silver at the Tokyo Olympics earlier today after clearing 5.97 meters

Sweden’s Armand Duplantis and Nilsen both cleared 5.97 meters before Nilsen was unable to vault over 6.02 meters and won the silver medal.

The 23-year-old Kansas City native has been with Team USA since the 2017 World Championships and won gold at the 2019 Pan American Games.

While as USD,  Nilsen broke the NCAA Indoor record in the pole vault with a clearance of 19 feet, 5 ½ inches
