Four Tigers Score in Double Figures, Defeat Hannibal-LaGrange 81-71

Columbia, MO – The DWU men’s basketball themselves back into the win column this afternoon, defeating the Hannibal LaGrange Trojans 81-71 in a non-conference matchup. Four Tigers scored over 12 points in the contest with Samuel Aslesen leading the squad with 21 points. The offense shot a near perfect 22-24 from the free throw line as well.

Recap – The Tigers were back in action in the Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic in Columbia, MO this afternoon. After a tough loss the night before, the DWU squad was ready to bounce back. Jakob Dobney picked up where he left off in the game before and hit a three pointer to score the first points for DWU. Blaze Lubbers would score a big three-point play after he collected an offensive rebound and converted his free throw to put DWU up by four. Several free throws and a Samuel Aslesen triple extended the Tigers’ lead to their first ten-point lead of the game. Randy Rosenquist Jr. was doing it all for the Tigers, as he gave the Tigers an 11-point lead with a few minutes remaining in the first half, we had also collected three boards, a pair of steals and dished out a nice dime to Lubbers. DWU saw their biggest lead of 15 with six minutes in the first half cut to four as the Trojans went on a 16-5 run to go into halftime.

The DWU offense extended their lead back out to nine swiftly to open the second half after Aslesen three-point shot. The Trojans refused to go away quietly, as Janssen Flotow would score 26 points in the second half for Hannibal-LaGrange. After the Tigers’ lead got cut to just one point, the game became a battle of back-and-forth lead changes. Aslesen was feeling his shot as he hit another three ball, his third fourth in the contest to finally halt the Trojans comeback efforts with five minutes remaining. The DWU team iced out the Trojans, making 15 free throws in a row in the second half to close out the game! Kallan Herman put the Trojans away with the final two free throws to give the Tigers the 10-point win.
