No. 24 Dakota Wesleyan Volleyball Swept by No. 17 Midland on the Road

FREMONT, Neb. — No. 24 Dakota Wesleyan traveled down to Nebraska to face the 17th-ranked Midland Warriors in a top-25 GPAC clash.

The Warriors and Tigers would trade the first few points back and forth, with a variety of Tigers seeing early action. Lily Ranschau landed a pair of kills to force Midland’s first timeout, totaling nine kills on the day, but the Warriors would quickly fight back with a scoring run in the middle of the frame that would give them an advantage the rest of the set. Midland would take set one swiftly by a score of 25-15.

The second set saw a more efficient offensive output, including Evy Knoblock‘s team-leading 10 kills through three sets. Karly VanDerWerff would also contribute five kills, while Emily Dale led the team at the net with three blocks in total. Kayleigh Hybertson‘s 24 assists served the team well, and as the second set continued, it was clear that every point and advantage would count. The frame went to extra points, with Midland ultimately taking the first two-point advantage to go up 2-0 on a 27-25 set score.

Defensively, Elizabeth Tyler led the way for DWU, tallying 15 digs in total. Hybertson contributed nine digs, and Carlee Laubach totaled five of her own. Even with their contributions, the third set would see the Warriors jump out to an early lead that would stay out of reach for the Tigers. The sustained scoring runs would secure a 3-0 match victory, winning the final set 25-14.

DWU Volleyball will be back in action against the College of Saint Mary for parent night on Friday, October 3rd.
