Platte advances to State Tournament with 12-2 win over Parkston

ALEXANDRIA, S.D. – The Platte Killer Tomatoes punched their ticket to the Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament with a 12-2, seven inning win over Parkston on Saturday night.

Platte (11-7) scored in each of the first three innings, including seven runs in the third inning to jump out to a 10-0 lead.

Richard Sternberg and Derek Soukup each had three hits for the Killer Tomatoes, while Ryan Allen, Hunter Hewitt and Soukup each had a HR.

Soukup also threw all seven innings for Platte, giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

Parkston ends the season with a 7-19 record.

Platte will find out who they play in the opening round of the state tournament when the brackets are released Sunday afternoon.
