SDSU wins first WNIT in blowout vs. Seton Hall.

BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State captured its first WNIT Championship on Saturday with a 82-50 win over Seton Hall in front of a sold out crowd of 5,263 at Frost Arena.

Kallie Theisen had a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds in just 18 minutes off the bench.

Four more Jackrabbits ended up in double figures, including Haleigh Timmer (14), Paiton Burckhard (13), Myah Selland (12) and Tori Nelson (11).

Selland also had 11 rebounds, 5 assists and was named the WNIT Tournament MVP.

The Jacks never trailed in the game, going on a 21-1 run in the first quarter to lead 25-7.

It took Seton Hall until 3:24 remaining in the third quarter to eclipse SDSU’s point total in the first quarter.

The 32 point margin of victory in the WNIT final is the largest in tournament championship history, eclipsing a 21 point win by Creighton in 2004.

It was the Jacks fifth WNIT in program history and the first ever championship appearance.

SDSU finishes the season with a 28-9 overall record, winning 26 of its last 28 games. They were also 18-2 at Frost Arena, winning 16 straight home games.
