MITCHELL KERNELS
— The Mitchell Kernels volleyball will face top-seeded Harrisburg on Thursday at Noon CST in the quarterfinals of the Class AA State Tournament in Rapids City. The KORNer Booth pregame show starts at 11 am.

DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan volleyball is headed back to the NAIA national tournament for the first time since 2022. The Tigers received an at-large bid out of the GPAC and will travel to No. 23 Park University in Parkville, Missouri, for a first-round match on Saturday. DWU enters the postseason at 18-11 and ranked 25th in the final NAIA coaches poll, after reaching the GPAC tournament semifinals. Park University is 19-9 on the season. The winner advances to the 24-team final site in Sioux City, Iowa, from December 3rd through 9th.

— Dakota Wesleyan volleyball landed five players on the GPAC All-Conference teams. Kayleigh Hybertson was named GPAC Setter of the Year, averaging 10 assists per set with more than 1,000 assists on the season. Lizzie Tyler earned GPAC Co-Defender of the Year, leading the league with 607 digs and nearly 5.8 digs per set. Both Hybertson and Tyler were selected to the All-GPAC First Team and each earned four Player of the Week honors during the season. Sophomore Evy Knoblock was named to the Second Team, ranking fourth in the conference with 356 kills. Lily Ranschau and Karly VanDerWerff received Honorable Mention honors.

— No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball host Morningside at the Corn Palace on Wednesday at 6 pm.

— Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball hosts Morningside on Wednesday night at 7:45 pm at the Corn Palace.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State men’s basketball improved to 3-2 on the season with a 94-46 win over Peru State on Monday night. Redshirt Freshman Trey Buchanan scored 24 points off the bench on 5-of-7 shooting from three. SDSU hosts Georgia State on Friday at 7 pm.

— South Dakota State volleyball ends the regular season hosting North Dakota on Tuesday at 7 pm. The Jacks are 21-3 overall on the season, 15-0 in the Summit League and have already clinched the No. 1 seed heading into the Summit League Tournament.

— South Dakota State women’s basketball, 4-0 on the season, face Gonzaga on Thursday at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls at 7 pm.

— South Dakota State football ends the regular season on Saturday at No. 13 North Dakota at 1 pm.

— No. 17 South Dakota State wrestling will be at No. 9 Minnesota next Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7 pm.

SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD freshman running back Carson Fletcher has been named the MVFC Newcomer of the Week after a standout performance in the Coyotes’ five-overtime win at Southern Illinois. Fletcher carried the ball 19 times for a career-best 104 yards, marking his first collegiate 100-yard game and nearly half of USD’s 224 rushing yards.

— USD volleyball returns home Tuesday to face North Dakota State in their final match of the regular season.

— USD men’s basketball will hit the road Thursday to face Missouri at 7 pm.

— USD women’s basketball, 5-0 on the season, hosts Valparaiso on Friday at 7 p.m.

— USD football finished the regular season with an 8-4 overall record and awaits their FCS Playoff fate on Sunday.

 COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— James Franklin has been hired as Virginia Tech’s head football coach, a little more than a month after he was fired during his 12th season at Penn State. The Hokies announced the move Monday evening, becoming the first Power 4 program to fill a coaching vacancy this season. Franklin was fired by Penn State on Oct. 12, a day after they lost at home to Northwestern. The 53-year-old Franklin went 104-45 at Penn State. He led the Nittany Lions to a College Football Playoff first-round victory last season.

NFL
— Dak Prescott passed for 268 yards and four touchdowns in a 33-16 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football. Dallas improved to 4-5-1 on the season, while the Raiders fall to 2-8.

— Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has been suspended without pay for one game for spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Chase spat on Ramsey during a confrontation in the fourth quarter Sunday. Ramsey grabbed Chase by the face mask and punched him, which resulted in Ramsey’s ejection. The NFL says Chase was suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct and will miss the Bengals’ home game against New England this weekend.

— Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix will be placed on injured reserve and will miss at least four games with a left knee injury, leaving Kirk Cousins as the starter. Penix suffered the injury in Sunday’s overtime loss to Carolina. It was the Falcons’ fifth straight loss. Cousins will make his second start of the season when the Falcons play at New Orleans on Sunday.

— The New York Jets will start Tyrod Taylor at quarterback over Justin Fields on Sunday. The move Monday by coach Aaron Glenn sends the struggling Fields to the bench for the Jets, who are coming off a 27-14 loss to New England last Thursday night.

— Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar has received a liver transplant after being on the waiting list for more than a year. Kosar shared a video on social media Monday in which he said he feels good and is ready to enjoy life. The 61-year-old had been dealing with liver issues for years. He was diagnosed with cirrhosis and Parkinson’s disease last year. Kosar played in the NFL for 12 seasons, leading the Browns to three AFC championship games.

— LeBron James returned to practice with the Los Angeles Lakers and is waiting to see how he feels before deciding whether to make his season debut Tuesday. When James returns to Los Angeles’ lineup, he will become the first player in NBA history to play in 23 seasons.

— Spurs center Victor Wembanyama will be sidelined for a few weeks due to a left calf strain. The Spurs are erring on the side of caution in bringing back Wembanyama, who underwent an MRI on Sunday. He will be reevaluated in two to three weeks. In his third season, Wembanyama is averaging career highs in points (26), rebounds (12.9) and while leading the league in blocks per game (3.6).

— Naz Reid scored a season-high 22 points as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Dallas Mavericks 120-96. Reid scored 10 points in the first quarter and led all scorers with 19 points in the first half. Six Timberwolves scored in double figures, including all five starters.

— Kevin Huerter and Nikola Vucevic hit big 3-pointers down the stretch as the Chicago Bulls overcame a triple-double by Nikola Jokic to hold off the Denver Nuggets 130-127. The Bulls squandered an 18-point lead in the first half. They also let a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter slip away before rallying late to snap a five-game losing streak. Jokic led Denver with 36 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists for his eighth triple-double of the season. He was an assist shy of reaching the mark by halftime.

— Detroit’s Jalen Duren scored 31 points in his return from an ankle injury as the Pistons won their 10th straight game, beating the Indiana Pacers 127-112. The Pistons are on their longest winning streak since an 11-game run during the 2007-08 season. The Pacers have lost eight straight games and fall to 1-13 on the season.

— Donovan Mitchell scored 37 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers rallied for a 118-106 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, who saw All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo leave Monday night’s game due to injury. Antetokounmpo immediately went to the locker room with 3:03 remaining in the second quarter and did not return due to a left groin strain.

— Chet Holmgren scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Oklahoma City Thunder raced to an early double-digit lead they maintained throughout in a 126-109 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

— Tyrese Maxey scored 39 points as the Philadelphia 76ers rallied for a 110-108 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. James Harden scored 28 points for the Clippers and became the 11th player in NBA to surpass 28,000 career points with a first-quarter layup.

— Norman Powell scored 19 points as the Miami Heat held off a late rally in the final moments to beat the New York Knicks 115-113. Miami led by 10 with 3 minutes left before the Knicks finished on an 11-3 run.
