DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball defeated No. 9 Briar Cliff 79-70 on Tuesday at the Corn Palace. The Tigers outscored Briar Cliff 19-11 in the fourth quarter after ending the third quarter with a one-point lead. Rylee Rosenquist finished with a game-high 24 points after going 10-of-11 from the foul line. Avery Broughton had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds on 6-of-7 shooting. DWU will be at Dakota State next Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 5 pm.
— Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball lost at Briar Cliff on Tuesday 90-81 to fall to 5-4 on the season. All five Tigers starters scored in double figures led by Randy Rosenquist Jr. 19 points and 14 rebounds. DWU will be at Dakota State next Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7 pm.
— Dakota Wesleyan volleyball will face Concordia (Neb.) on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 pm, followed by The Master’s University on Thursday in pool play.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State volleyball lost its first match of the season vs. a Summit League team on Tuesday night, 3-1 to St. Thomas in the Summit League Tournament final. With the win, St. Thomas gets the automatic bid from the Summit League into the NCAA Tournament. SDSU still has a shot to get in as an at-large selection with 23-4 record and a top 30 RPI. Sylvie Zgonc led the Jacks with 19 kills, while Madison Burr added 14 kills and seven blocks. St. Thomas improves to 21-9 and advances to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
— No. 16 South Dakota State wrestling picked up their first dual win vs. Minnesota since 1974 on Tuesday night with an 18-14 victory over the No. 7 ranked Gophers. The dual came down to the heavyweight match with SDSU’s Luke Rasmussen defeating Minnesota’s Koy Kopke 7-5. The Jackrabbits are off next weekend before heading to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 5-6 in Las Vegas.
— South Dakota State men’s basketball lost to Utah Valley 75-52 at the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday. The Jacks were outscored 46-28 in the second half have trailing by only five points at halftime. Matthew Mors was the only Jackrabbit in double figures with 10 points as SDSU shot only 33% from the field. SDSU, 4-3 on the season, faces UC-Irvine on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
— South Dakota State women’s basketball, 5-0 on the season, will spend the week at the Cancun Challenge in Mexico when they face No. 12 North Carolina on Thursday at 10 am, followed by Columbia on Friday at 12:30 pm and Kansas State on Saturday at 10 am. The Jackrabbits are the second team outside of the top 25 AP poll this week, ranked 27th in the country.
— South Dakota State football will host New Hampshire in the first round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday at noon at Dykhouse Stadium, marking the Jackrabbits’ 14th straight postseason appearance. Both teams enter at 8-4, with SDSU holding the No. 14 seed as an at-large selection from the Missouri Valley Football Conference. New Hampshire also earned an at-large bid from the CAA. The winner advances to face No. 3 seed Montana on Dec. 6.
SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD women’s basketball improved to 7-0 on the season with a 73-41 home win on Tuesday vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Angelina Robles had a game-high 21 points, six rebounds and five assists. The Coyotes will be at Wyoming on Sunday at 2 pm CST.
— USD men’s basketball takes on Air Force on Saturday at 3 pm in Rapid City.
— USD football earned the No. 11 seed in the FCS playoffs and will host Drake in a first-round game on Saturday at noon in the DakotaDome. The Coyotes, 8-4 and second in the MVFC, secured their fifth playoff berth and third straight appearance, and will host a postseason game for the fourth time.
NFL
— Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow confirms he’ll return Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens. Burrow had surgery for a turf toe injury on Sept. 19 and is returning nearly a month early. The Bengals have a 3-8 record, but are just three games back of Baltimore for first place in the AFC North with six games remaining.
— The Buffalo Bills have signed veteran free agent wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Cooks joins the Bills after the New Orleans Saints waived him last week. Cooks is in his 12th NFL season and last had a 1,000 yard receiving year with Houston in 2021.
— Carolina Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig has been suspended one game without pay for punching San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings in the groin during Monday’s game. Moehrig may appeal the suspension under the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. He will be eligible to return to the Panthers’ active roster next Monday.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— A week filled with nonconference blowouts locked the College Football Playoff rankings into a virtual standstill, with Ohio State ranked first again and Oregon’s flip-flop with Ole Miss at Nos. 6 and 7 is the only change in the top 10. Oregon’s victory over Southern California accounted for its move up one spot over Mississippi, which didn’t play last week. Miami moved up one spot to No. 12 over Utah.
— Oklahoma State is hiring Eric Morris from North Texas as its new head football coach. Morris has led North Texas since 2023, turning a 5-7 team into a 10-1 contender for a conference championship. Morris replaces Mike Gundy, who was fired in September during his 21st season. Interim coach Doug Meacham is 0-8, with Oklahoma State at 1-10. North Texas leads the nation in scoring and total offense. Morris will finish the season with North Texas.
NBA
— Luka Doncic had 43 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds, while LeBron James added 25 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ fifth consecutive victory, 135-118 over the Los Angeles Clippers. Doncic matched his season high with 32 points in the first half. Austin Reaves had 31 points and nine rebounds for the Lakers, who have won 11 of 13 overall.
— Anthony Black scored 27 of his career-high 31 points in the first half as the Orlando Magic routed the Philadelphia 76ers 144-103.
— CJ McCollum had season highs with 46 points and 10 made 3-pointers as the Washington Wizards snapped a 14-game losing streak en route to a 132-113 win over the Atlanta Hawks. Washington opened with a 45-point first quarter and 77-point first half.
MLB
— The Boston Red Sox have acquired right-hander Sonny Gray from the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals will receive righty Richard Fitts and prospect Brandon Clarke. Gray went 14-8 with a 4.28 ERA for the Cardinals last season. In a 13-year career with five teams, he is 125-102 with a 3.58 ERA and three All-Star appearances.
