Sioux Falls bank robber sentenced to over five years in prison

Ayub Ibrahim Mohamed, a 23-year-old Sioux Falls man, was sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison on Friday for attempting to rob a bank.

Mohamed entered a Wells Fargo Bank in Sioux Falls on August 24, 2022, and demanded $200,000 from the tellers. The tellers gave him the money, and he fled the scene. However, he was apprehended by police a short time later.

Mohamed pleaded guilty to bank robbery in March 2023. He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on Friday. In addition to his prison sentence, Mohamed will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years after his release.
