Senator Mike Rounds wants the benefits and extras received by upper executives at the United States Postal Service removed until mail service to South Dakota and other rural states improves. On the Senate Floor last week, Rounds says the Office of the Inspector General has presented real evidence from local post offices that hint at efforts to hide reality.
Rounds says the Postal Service has misused millions approved for the U-S-P-S in an effort to improve efficiency. “Based on that promise, Congress passed the Postal Service Reform Act,” said Rounds. “They promised that the so-called Delivering for America plan would cut costs, improve service, and return postal service to profitability. Instead, today, Americans face unprecedented costs when they want to mail a letter with delivery times worse than the Pony Express.”
Rounds is bringing legislation to end executive benefits and also looking to place holds on every nominee for the Postal Service Board of Directors until efforts are made to correct mail service in South Dakota.
