Mitchell relay wins, Stach leads way at Corn Palace Relays

MITCHELL, S.D. — Mitchell turned in several standout performances at the Corn Palace Relays on Thursday at Joe Quintal Field, highlighted by a state-leading relay win and a top Class AA field event mark.

The Mitchell boys 4×200-meter relay team of Alexier Padilla, Carter Lee, Sam Mullenmeister and Samari Wright won the event in 1:30.88, one of the fastest times in South Dakota this season. The group also helped anchor a strong day for Mitchell relays, which included a runner-up finish in the 4×400 relay.

In the field events, Bryer Stach delivered a dominant performance in the discus, winning with a throw of 163 feet, the top mark in Class AA this year. Stach also added a third-place finish in the shot put, while Logan Bessler placed second in the discus to give Mitchell a strong showing in throws.

Mitchell also recorded multiple top-eight finishes across sprints, hurdles, jumps and distance events, contributing to a solid overall team effort at the meet, which featured eight new meet records and one state record.

Sioux Falls Lincoln set a new state record in the boys 4×400 relay, finishing in 3:14.69.

Mitchell returns to competition April 24 at the Pierre Invitational.
