Second-Half Surge Not Enough as Tigers Fall to Lancers

YANKTON, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan Men’s Basketball squared off against the Mount Marty Lancers down at Cimpl Arena in a GPAC contest.

The first-half effort for the Tigers was led by Tyson Stevenson in the starting rotation, who posted nine of his 17 total points in the first portion of play. He operated at a 6-8 (75%) clip from the field and 3-4 (75%) from three and added three boards, two assists, and two steals to his final stat line to help get the scoring effort rolling. He was joined by Randy Rosenquist Jr., who came off the bench for the contest, and went on to record eight points in total while adding four boards to his effort. Points rolled in for the Tigers, but the pace of the Lancer offense led to MMU distancing itself from DWU early.

Easton Neuendorf and Andrew Younan chipped in from the starting rotation, but the Lancers were still able to take a double-digit, 47-33 lead into the break. Neuendorf went on to contribute 11 points, five assists, and three boards, while Younan posted five total points and two rebounds. Overall, the Tigers found their efforts from the field to be more efficient than the Lancers, but MMU found a 43-24 rebound advantage to record 38 total points in the paint, giving them space on the scoreboard.

The second half saw a surge from Steele Morgan, who recorded all of his team-leading 18 points in the second half, going a perfect 6-6 from the field and 4-4 from the three-point line in the final 20 minutes of play. Oliver Vincent found consistent contributions on his way to a 13-point, six-assist performance, while Noah Oberfeld contributed four total points off the bench.

Even with these contributions, along with Dakota Wesleyan outscoring Mount Marty 43-41 in the second half, MMU kept its advantage for the remainder of the contest. DWU ultimately fell in the road conference rivalry contest, 88-76. The Tigers operated at a 55.6% clip from beyond the arc and 54.2% from the field overall, but had 12 turnovers to Mount Marty’s six. DWU moves to 14-12 overall and 9-9 in GPAC play.

DWU Men’s Basketball will be back in action at home against the Dordt Defenders on Wednesday, February 18th, for Senior Day starting at 7:45 PM.
